Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Time: variable

Venue: Lochaber area.

Frequency: (usually) weekly sessions of 50 minutes duration

Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy involves meeting regularly with a therapist to try and make sense of current psychological or relationship difficulties, with the view that understanding is a precursor to change and growth. We will explore current problems in relation to past events and possible traumas that may have had an impact on the way you are today. The relationship with the therapist is an important part of the therapy which can take time to develop, particularly if you have experienced breaches of trust or betrayal in your past. It is important to try and stick with it and talk about any initial apprehensions you may have, bearing in mind that you can decide to stop at any time.

The experience of psychotherapy is an intimate one and there are no limits on what can be discussed within the secure and confidential relationship that develops.

You may have tried other forms of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and gained benefit but realise that your problems are more deep seated and in need of a different approach to relieve your suffering. Some people come along to explore a particular issue requiring only a few sessions and others prefer to explore things over the longer term and gain from having the experience of being in a relationship, albeit a therapeutic one.

Your particular difficulties and needs would be explored during the Initial Consultation.
